Happy One Year Anniversary Valentia!

Last week I was invited to a ladies night out to celebrate one of my favorite Chicago boutique's one year anniversary of opening their doors!  Located in Bucktown, Valentia has a great selection of fair trade items, gifts, accessories and clothing.  Jane, the owner, recently designed a line of simple, modern dresses which were debuted at the party, as well as available for purchase.
Check out some of the fun patterns bellow!

Not only was there plenty of great shopping all evening, but tasty donuts from Glazed & Infused and samplings of Coggies gourmet cookie mix too!

Congratulations Jane!  Here's to many more years for Valentia.

Much Love

Dose Market

On Sunday Karley and I went to our first ever Dose Market here in Chicago.  I have been wanting to check out this "fancy flea market" since I moved here last year!  Dose takes place once a month, all year long, in the River East Art Center.  This month the market was themed around Valentine's Day with festive food vendors, homemade valentines, and even a traveling photo booth!  One of my favorite parts of Dose was these AH-MAZING cupcakes from Chicago Cupcake!  I wanted to take every single one home with me!  Of course, I couldn't help but snap a bunch of photos while at the market.
Adore them all bellow! --------------->

I'm pretty much in LOVE with this crystal necklace that I spotted at the market by Shades of Grey!  *mental wish list*

The original art work on display by Deborah Baker was so fun!  I adored her homemade valentines!

My grandpa, a retired dentist, would be proud of me sporting these realistic, teeth earrings by Dallas Maynard Jewelry!  Another item to add to my growing Dose wish list.

The phenomenal, pink velvet cupcake that I still dream about!  Seriously.  It was amazing you guys!

It was a great day for "Dose-ing"!  I wore this cozy, patterned sweater dress by snap and paired it with my favorite pair of tights by Simply Vera Wang.  I finished off my boho chic look with a pair of Guess ankle boots and a braided, statement necklace, which was a fantastic, thrifting find!  Another great thrifted item is my vintage, leather Coach purse, my new favorite bag.
The next Dose Market is March 10th, my birthday weekend, so I am definitely looking forward to that!  I am also looking forward to seeing Mumford and Sons in concert this weekend in New Jersey! Eeeeeek!  Yeah....I just squealed a little.  Keep an eye out here for my next blog post featuring photos from the concert!

Tomorrow Never Knows Festival - Lincoln Hall

What a crazy week it has been!  Luckily, I had a pretty amazing weekend to make up for it.
On Friday I attended my first concert at Lincoln Hall.  The Tomorrow Never Knows festival is a Chicago music festival that showcases local and national indie music acts.  My friend/boss Stephanie, of vive la femme, invited me so we could enjoy the sounds of DJ Moon Boots!  My favorite band of the evening was actually the opening act, Vacationer.  Their up-beat, electric sound reminds me of Passion Pit!  A band called Ssion stole the show though with their eccentric stage presence and lead singer who looked and sounded like a rock and roll version of Prince.  It was so much fun dancing and listening to new bands! I would love to attend the whole festival next year!  I also tried out a new restaurant this weekend with Karley.  It is called Barn & Company and is located just south of Lake View.  Their barbecue tacos featured on the starters menu, left us surprisingly full and VERY impressed!  Definitely check out this place for your next party, date, or family dinner for some fantastic BBQ.

I hope you all had a great weekend too!  I know it's been a little while since I posted a recent outfit, but next week's post looks promising.  Until then, please check out my Chictopia blog for updates!

Ssion lead singer.  Loving the 'stache!

Sunday Funday

I was so excited to have the whole day off on Sunday!  I got to sleep in and make (and actually eat) breakfast then go window shopping with Karley.  Later in the day, Karley took me to this amazing little coffee shop on North Lincoln Ave.  It is called Heritage General Store and not only do they have AMAZING coffee, they also make custom bikes!  How cool is that?  The Staff was extremely friendly and the atmosphere was perfect.  I will definitely be making the trip South to go here regularly!
After attending the evening service at Soul City, we headed back to my house to make dinner.  We made fish tacos and watched the Golden Globes!  It was a great day!  I am so lucky to live in a wonderful city with so much to offer...and of course wonderful friends to explore it with.

I also got to do my hair and my makeup on my day off!

What is your favorite thing to do on your day off?
 Have a great week everyone!

Welcome 2013

Happy New Year everyone!

I hope you all had a safe and happy New Years eve, celebrated with good friends and of course some tasty food and drinks, like I did.  Karley hosted a party at her adorable apartment in Lakeview (I've been begging her to let me feature her apartment in a post!) where some of our close friends came together to ring in 2013.  Randomly, everyone ended up being from Michigan, so that was pretty cool!

We served salmon bruschetta, goat cheese and spinach roll-ups, chili, pot stickers, and of course delicious confetti cake!  Check out these pictures of our amazing spread and festive decorations.

I am so excited for 2013!  I usually do not make New Year resolutions, but this year I have just a few.

  •  Do my hair more
  •  Eat breakfast everyday
  • No wearing work out gear as lounge wear (sorry yoga pants)
  • Budget better
  • Believe in myself more
  • Contribute consistently for a publication

What are you looking forward to this year?

Oh, I almost forgot!  I am so excited to announce that I am now on Etsy!  Please check out my Alluring Chicago shop for one of a kind art prints, homemade goods, and COMING SOON, handmade gifts made in my home state of Michigan.

Have a great day!
Much love.
