May Day: An Outfit Highlight

It's May and I couldn't be more excited!  Warm weather means it's time to break out the skirts, summer dresses, and shoes that are anything other than snow boots.  Can I get an, amen?   It's been a long time coming Chicago!

In celebration of the glorious weather, this outfit highlight features one of my favorite high-lo dresses by Lucie Lu.  I paired it with a striped Anne Klein top for a bit of a preppy, urban look. Stripes are definitely my thing this season.  Check out some photos bellow!

Dress: Lucie Lu
Shoes: Charles Albert

The rest of my day will be spent cleaning and organizing my apartment.  It's finally Spring Cleaning time!  How will you all be enjoying this beautiful weather?

An Outfit Highlight - Living For The Weekend

It's my favorite day of the week!  My Saturdays are usually spent catching up on life, spending time with friends and crafting. Today, Karley and I met up for brunch at this amazing restaurant/cafe/bar, Endgrain.  It just opened up last year in Lakeview, so of course we had to check it out!

The food was amazing and the atmosphere was very inviting.  It was quite busy, but that's to be expected on a Saturday at peak brunch hours.  We will be back for sure!

After brunch we walked a couple blocks, dodged puddles, and snapped a few photos.  Check of some shots of today's outfit, bellow!

scarf:  thrifted
sweatshirt:  Urban Outfitters
leggings:  Calvin Klein
shoes: Sam & Libby

I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend.  Stay dry out there!

A Halloween Costume Highlight: Maison Michel Model

Halloween came and went so fast!  I can hardly believe it is already November.
I hope you all had a fun and safe Holiday.  I had a great time with friends and dressing up!

This year I decided to take a more "fashionable" approach to Halloween, with this DIY costume.  I dressed up as a Maison Michel model!  Some of you may recall seeing his designs on celebrities such as Lady Gaga and the Olson twins.  I created this head piece myself with some lace, floral wire, and a headband.  Both the dress and tights I found at Target and my shoes are recycled from junior prom.  Being on a budget doesn't have to keep you from coming up with a great costume.  You just have to get creative!

Thank you to my friend Karley for capturing my costume in this Marc Jacobs inspired shoot.  It's kind of creepy looking, which is perfect for the season!

It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year - An Outfit Highlight

Pumpkins, the changing color of the leaves, the cool, crisp air.  There is nothing I don't love about this time of year. Especially dressing for the weather!

Last weekend I met up with my friends Jamie and Michelle in Geneva, IL for a day full of fall festivities!  After a delicious brunch, we went to this adorable pumpkin patch called Sonny Acres.  There were of course tons of pumpkins there, a petting zoo, and lots of fun games and rides.  What a perfect place to spend the day!

Top: Urban Outfitters
Leggings: Macy's
Boots: Guess

Doesn't this place look like so much fun?  If you are looking for a family-friendly place to celebrate the season, Sonny Acres is a great place to go.

A big THANK YOU to my friend Jamie of StrangeFate Photography for snapping these pics of me!

Flower Power - An Outfit Highlight

Temperatures are still high and the leaves are staying green here in Chicago, but I am all ready for fall!
It is by far my favorite time of year.  I love the cooler weather, layering long-sleeved shirts, skirts, and tights.  And who doesn't love a good pair of ankle boots to tie it all together?

This outfit highlight was shot by my amazingly talented friend, Jaime of Strange Fate Photography. My other friend Michelle modeled with me for a few pics and also posted about her outfit here!
What a fun collaboration!

Necklace: Geranium
Jacket: Lucie Lu
Tank: Kimchi Blue
Leggings: Presence

Michelle and Jamie and I all had such a fun time shooting these photos in Geneva!  It was the perfect evening for getting together with friends and making some fashion happen.

Summer In The City - An Outfit Highlight

When I told my friend Amanda I was in need of a dress for Lollapalooza this year, she delivered!

Amanda is the founder and owner of a clothing label called Redskew.  Currently specializing in custom pieces, Redskew is a Chicago based company built on the the basic principles of design.

I wore this festive, floral dress on the Saturday of Lolla.  It was the perfect style for the ocassion and best of all?  It has pockets!

This sign is available on my Etsy store!

Of Course I HAD to look my best for seeing Mumford and Sons!  They closed out the Red Bull stage that night to more than 100,000 people.  It was an amazing experience to see them in my home city!

Here are a few photos that I captured on a Sony Cyber-shot.  Not bad for a point and shoot!

I hope you all had a great weekend!  Keep an eye out here in the next month for photos from my trip to Troy, OH for the Mumford and Sons Gentlemen of the Road stopover!

I Got It At Sears - An Outfit Highlight

Hello Chicagoans and fashion lovers everywhere!
How about this weather we are having?  Nothing like a monsoon and a beautiful light show of thunder to end the evening, right?

At least this weekend was warm and sunny.   For the first time, it really felt like summer had started!  Karley snapped some pics of my outfit before we headed off to one of the many Chicago street festivals on Saturday.

This fun, flowy skirt and pastel top are both made with light-weight fabric, perfect for the spring to summer transition.
And that's right....I got them at Sears!

Skirt: French Connection
Earrings: vintage
Shoes: Gomax

While we were taking photos, we spotted this fluffy-headed duck waddling along the river bank.
Isn't he so cute?

Thanks for checking out another post for "I Got It At Sears"!

Coral Me Happy! - An Outfit Highlight

Last weekend was full of time spent with friends, working, and some spring cleaning, so I was quite the busy gal!  Luckily, I had time to go see The Great Gatsby with Karley and my roomie, Kelly, on Friday when it opened in theatres.  If you have not gotten a chance to see it yet, go now! Well, you can finish reading my lovely post first....but then GO! It was amazing!

I bought a lovely pair of coral colored shoes from Akira for a prohibition benefit last year and seeing the glitzy, 20's era fashion on the big screen inspired me to wear them the very next day!

Cardigan: thrifted
Belt: H&M
Jeans: Miracle Body from vive la femme
Knuckle Ring: Mishellaa Boutique
Shoes: Akira

This next weekend is shaping up to be a warm one, so hopefully you will get a chance to get out there and enjoy it!
What is your favorite thing to do in Chicago in the spring?

Happy One Year Anniversary Valentia!

Last week I was invited to a ladies night out to celebrate one of my favorite Chicago boutique's one year anniversary of opening their doors!  Located in Bucktown, Valentia has a great selection of fair trade items, gifts, accessories and clothing.  Jane, the owner, recently designed a line of simple, modern dresses which were debuted at the party, as well as available for purchase.
Check out some of the fun patterns bellow!

Not only was there plenty of great shopping all evening, but tasty donuts from Glazed & Infused and samplings of Coggies gourmet cookie mix too!

Congratulations Jane!  Here's to many more years for Valentia.

I Got It At Sears! - An Outfit Highlight

Thank goodness the weekend is here!  It has been terribly windy, rainy, and snowy.....yes, I said snowy, here in Chicago this week.  I am happy to say that the sun has finally come out today, so hopefully warmer weather is headed our way!

Most of you have probably seen it, but recently a commercial aired featuring a stylish women, wearing a series of outfits.  When asked where she got her incredibly cute clothing, the women replied, "I got it at Sears."  I have to say, when I first saw the commercial I thought "Yeah, right you did!" lol
But the more I saw it, the more I was intrigued, so I decided to go check it out for myself.

As someone who has always categorized Sears as the farthest thing from fashionable, I was pleasantly surprised to find some wonderful pieces at great prices!  The dress I am wearing in these photos is from   the French Connection line and was on sale for just $3.99!  I just love a good deal!

Necklace:  thrifted
Belt:  H & M
Shoes: thrifted

I will definitely be checking out Sears for some more fashion finds!  Maybe I will even make this a new series? We shall see.....
A big thank you to my pal Karley for being my photographer for the shoot and my amazingly talented friend Melissa, creator and owner of Event Life, for painting my nails!  Aren't they so adorable?

I hope you all enjoy your weekend!

Much Love. xoxo

Dose Market

On Sunday Karley and I went to our first ever Dose Market here in Chicago.  I have been wanting to check out this "fancy flea market" since I moved here last year!  Dose takes place once a month, all year long, in the River East Art Center.  This month the market was themed around Valentine's Day with festive food vendors, homemade valentines, and even a traveling photo booth!  One of my favorite parts of Dose was these AH-MAZING cupcakes from Chicago Cupcake!  I wanted to take every single one home with me!  Of course, I couldn't help but snap a bunch of photos while at the market.
Adore them all bellow! --------------->

I'm pretty much in LOVE with this crystal necklace that I spotted at the market by Shades of Grey!  *mental wish list*

The original art work on display by Deborah Baker was so fun!  I adored her homemade valentines!

My grandpa, a retired dentist, would be proud of me sporting these realistic, teeth earrings by Dallas Maynard Jewelry!  Another item to add to my growing Dose wish list.

The phenomenal, pink velvet cupcake that I still dream about!  Seriously.  It was amazing you guys!

It was a great day for "Dose-ing"!  I wore this cozy, patterned sweater dress by snap and paired it with my favorite pair of tights by Simply Vera Wang.  I finished off my boho chic look with a pair of Guess ankle boots and a braided, statement necklace, which was a fantastic, thrifting find!  Another great thrifted item is my vintage, leather Coach purse, my new favorite bag.
The next Dose Market is March 10th, my birthday weekend, so I am definitely looking forward to that!  I am also looking forward to seeing Mumford and Sons in concert this weekend in New Jersey! Eeeeeek!  Yeah....I just squealed a little.  Keep an eye out here for my next blog post featuring photos from the concert!

Karley's Birthday

Last week was Karley's birthday!  Not just any birthday...her GOLDEN birthday!  She invited a few of her close friends for a dinner party at an adorable restaurant in Wrigleyville called Blokes and Birds.  About a month ago, we discovered that they have the most amazing burgers, so Karley knew she had to have her party there.  We all drank, enjoyed conversation, and ate cake!  I baked and decorated a vanilla bean cake as part of Karley's birthday present and I was delighted by how well it turned out! Check out these photos of friends and fashion from the party!

Karley's super cute floral dress is from Bazar and so are her shoes!  The fun, bright colors are perfect for the upcoming spring/summer seasons.

Great ladies dress alike in fun patterns!  My shawl is from Urban Outfitters and my skirt is from Kohls. I also wore one of my favorite pair of ankle boots from violette.

I hope you all had a great week and an even better weekend!

Merry Pinterest-mas!

It's great to be back from my little Holiday blogging break!  I hope you all had a great Christmas, or other holiday that you celebrated.  I was a busy crafter leading up to Christmas.  I made a commitment to make a majority of my Christmas presents this year and it was so much fun!  Of course, most of my inspiration came from Pinterest.  I ended up saving some money and giving much more meaningful gifts, so everyone was happy! I also squeezed in some baking time with my dear friend Karley the week before we both headed home to Michigan.  I even baked some snacks for all the canine friends in my life!
Here are some photos of my crafting and baking extravaganza!  Also, check out my pinterest boards for links to tutorials, so you can recreate some of these ideas too.

Tomorrow is New Years Eve!  What are you doing to celebrate?  My next post will highlight my festivities for the evening.  Check it out here next week!

Happy Sunday everybody!
Last week we had our first dusting of snow in Chicago, but today it is sunny and warm outside!
(That's Chicago or ya)  Autumn is my favorite time of year, so I am fine with no serious snow until after Thanksgiving.  Speaking of my favorite season, here are some photos from a fun photo shoot featuring my Halloween costume this year!  I had a blast making this "foxy" mask and going out on the town in it Halloween weekend.

Me and my friend Karley loved our folky woodland creature masks!
In fact, she was my wonderful photographer for the shoot!

What is your favorite Halloween costume from past years?

I hope you all enjoy your day!  Relax,  do a craft, maybe bake something?  Whatever you do...enjoy it.

Chicago PinUp Photo Shoot

It's finally here! The post I have been talking up on my Facebook page and sharing sneak peek photos from!  My shoot with Chicago Pinup!
In August, me and my friend Amber of Style Plus Curves got the great opportunity to do a duel pin up shoot with Chicago Pinup at their studio in Warrenville, IL.  Upon arriving at the studio, we both went through hair and makeup, transforming us into dolled-up, pin up girls!  Yari, the Chicago Pinup "Glam Squad" makeup artist, gave me a wonderful, airbrushed foundation and vintage cat eyes.  My inventive hair style (it took some work to temporarily cover my shaved patch) with fitting victory rolls was the work of Katrina.
After all of the final touches, me and Amber headed into the studio with Karina, the owner and main photographer.  There were shoes galore and a great assortment of props everywhere! It was like walking into the drama room in high school...I wanted to try everything on!
Even though I have had some experience in front of a camera, I was quite nervous.  I had never done a pinup shoot before!  Surprisingly, it didn't take long for me to get into "character.  Karina's helpful tips and easy-going demeanor had me relaxed and laughing.  After all of the fun in the studio, I couldn't wait to see our photos....but I would have to wait.  With the recent expansion of their studio, it ended up taking longer than the originally quoted 4 weeks for me to get my photos.  Even so, Karina's communication was wonderful through the entire process!  I am very excited to see Chicago Pinup grow, especially with their recent decision to do pin up exclusively!

Enjoy my favorite photos from the shoot!
Please check out Chicago Pinup on Facebook at

Doesn't this look like a blast?  Thank you Karina and the entire Chicago Pinup team!

Put A Bird On It!

Fall is without a doubt my favorite time of year!  The colder weather, festive pumpkin treats, of course the styles of the season...I love it all! Rather than turning over my whole closet, I like taking on the challenge of transitioning some of my summer pieces into fall favorites.

This is a look that I put together for work recently.  I love all of the blue and of course my wonderful bird shirt! My fashion friend, Amber of Style Plus Curves snapped these fun photos at a great little garden.  We obviously had a blast with the shoot!  Check out her blog soon for some photos taken by yours truly.

I hope you all are enjoying the wonderful fall weather!
