May Day: An Outfit Highlight

Perry

It's May and I couldn't be more excited!  Warm weather means it's time to break out the skirts, summer dresses, and shoes that are anything other than snow boots.  Can I get an, amen?   It's been a long time coming Chicago!

In celebration of the glorious weather, this outfit highlight features one of my favorite high-lo dresses by Lucie Lu.  I paired it with a striped Anne Klein top for a bit of a preppy, urban look. Stripes are definitely my thing this season.  Check out some photos bellow!

Dress: Lucie Lu
Shoes: Charles Albert

The rest of my day will be spent cleaning and organizing my apartment.  It's finally Spring Cleaning time!  How will you all be enjoying this beautiful weather?

Urban Living : An Outfit Highlight

Perry

I have an obsession.  I'm confessing it to you all, here and now.

At the corner of Clark and Fullerton stands a beautiful place, where all of your favorite Urban Outfitter pieces are marked at an obscenely low price.  Now, I'm not complaining. Quite the opposite actually.  Every time I walk into this store, I am like a mom in a dollar store!  I just love the thrill of a good deal!

Most of this highlighted outfit was a result of my latest trip to shopping heaven.  If you haven't been, hurry your fashionista fantail right over there!  It's the changing of the seasons, which means there is so much more to choose from.

The Crane Wives at Subterranean

Perry

Ok, guys and gals, I think it's finally safe to say it...SPRING HAS SPRUNG!
It was in the high 60's all day today, here in Chicago and boy, did it feel amazing!

All of this nice weather has got my spirits raised and my concert addiction brewing.  I can't wait for all of the street festivals, amazing food trucks, and live music!

A few weeks ago, Karley and I went to a show at Subterranean.  One of my favorite Michigan based bands, The Crane Wives were headlining, so of course we had to go!  It was my first time at this bar/venue.  The small space is perfect for intimate performances!

Two other bands accompanied The Crane Wives.  Steve Leaf and his band opened up the set with their twangy-indie sound and Daniel Ellsworth and The Great Lakes (pictured bellow) followed after with an electric, killer jam.

The Crane Wives were amazing as usual!  It's always so fun to hear their rock infused, folk sound.  Each of their sets usually includes a cover or two and this time they did a lively rendition of The Avett Brothers' "Kick Drum Heart".

I always look forward to seeing any of my favorite Michigan performers in my now-home, Chicago.
I hope you all are enjoying the awakening music scene as well!

Much Love

A Day In Wicker Park - An Outfit Highlight

Perry

It's warming up here in Chicago!
Today it felt like spring might actually come.  I can't wait to trade in my winter boots and layers for airy dresses and tank tops.  Those summer festivals are already calling my name!  Until then, I will just have to celebrate the small victories, like today.

Karley and I met for lunch at our favorite butcher shop meets gourmet restaurant, Chop Shop, in Wicker Park.  The food and beer options are always ah-mazing!  Check out my Istagram account, @alluringchi for snapshot of my favorite sandwich.

Top: comfy
Necklace: Daphnis and Chloe
Purse: vintage - thrifted
Jeans: Levi
Shoes: Steve Madden - thrifted

We spent the rest of the day strolling around Wicker Park, sipping on our favorite drinks at our favorite places.  We also discovered a new favorite bar, Trenchermen.  The ambiance and drink option of this place are insane!  I have already made plans to celebrate my birthday here next month.  Check it out if you are in the area!

Have a great weekend, all!

Daphnis and Chloe Debute Party

Perry

I am so lucky to be surrounded by such talented people in my life.

My wonderful friend, Emily Grissom is one of them!

This week she debuted her first line of jewelry for her apparel company, Daphnis and Chloe.  To celebrate, Emily threw a party to showcase her pieces.  Guests enjoyed hot toddies, champagne, and delicious appetizers while mingling and perusing the collection.

Handmade with delicate metals and vertebral accents, each piece is as romantic as the story behind the name of her brand, inspired by the love story of Daphnis and Chloe from Greek mythology.

Soon, the collection will be available online at etsy.com/shop/daphnisandchloe.  Until then, all order inquiries can be directed to daphnisandchloedesigns@gmail.com

Congratulations to you, Emily!

We are all so proud of and inspired by you.

An Outfit Highlight - Living For The Weekend

Perry

It's my favorite day of the week!  My Saturdays are usually spent catching up on life, spending time with friends and crafting. Today, Karley and I met up for brunch at this amazing restaurant/cafe/bar, Endgrain.  It just opened up last year in Lakeview, so of course we had to check it out!

The food was amazing and the atmosphere was very inviting.  It was quite busy, but that's to be expected on a Saturday at peak brunch hours.  We will be back for sure!

After brunch we walked a couple blocks, dodged puddles, and snapped a few photos.  Check of some shots of today's outfit, bellow!

scarf:  thrifted
sweatshirt:  Urban Outfitters
leggings:  Calvin Klein
shoes: Sam & Libby

I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend.  Stay dry out there!

Happy 2014: Family Photos

Perry

Welcome 2014!  Oh, how I have been so looking forward to you.  It's going to be a great year, all and I am so glad to start it here with you!  I have missed you so much!  I hope you missed me too. xoxo

I can hardly believe the holidays are over!  How crazy fast did that fly by, right?  I still had a great time spent with family and friends though, so I am thankful for that.  I traveled to my hometown in Michigan for Christmas and spent some much needed time with my adorable nephews.

I set aside some time while I was there to take some photos of my new baby nephew, Harrison and his big brother Jude.  How adorable are they?  No need to answer that...I'll tell you...they are SO stinking cute! Take a look at a few of the photos from the shoot bellow.

I hope you all had a great holiday with your friends and family, as well!  This year I am focusing on doing more photography.  If you or anyone you may know is in need of family photos, engagement photos, senior pictures, event photography, you name it...I would LOVE to be your girl!

It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year - An Outfit Highlight

Perry

Pumpkins, the changing color of the leaves, the cool, crisp air.  There is nothing I don't love about this time of year. Especially dressing for the weather!

Last weekend I met up with my friends Jamie and Michelle in Geneva, IL for a day full of fall festivities!  After a delicious brunch, we went to this adorable pumpkin patch called Sonny Acres.  There were of course tons of pumpkins there, a petting zoo, and lots of fun games and rides.  What a perfect place to spend the day!

Top: Urban Outfitters
Leggings: Macy's
Boots: Guess

Doesn't this place look like so much fun?  If you are looking for a family-friendly place to celebrate the season, Sonny Acres is a great place to go.

A big THANK YOU to my friend Jamie of StrangeFate Photography for snapping these pics of me!

Flower Power - An Outfit Highlight

Perry

Temperatures are still high and the leaves are staying green here in Chicago, but I am all ready for fall!
It is by far my favorite time of year.  I love the cooler weather, layering long-sleeved shirts, skirts, and tights.  And who doesn't love a good pair of ankle boots to tie it all together?

This outfit highlight was shot by my amazingly talented friend, Jaime of Strange Fate Photography. My other friend Michelle modeled with me for a few pics and also posted about her outfit here!
What a fun collaboration!

Necklace: Geranium

Michelle and Jamie and I all had such a fun time shooting these photos in Geneva!  It was the perfect evening for getting together with friends and making some fashion happen.

Summer In The City - An Outfit Highlight

Perry

When I told my friend Amanda I was in need of a dress for Lollapalooza this year, she delivered!

Amanda is the founder and owner of a clothing label called Redskew.  Currently specializing in custom pieces, Redskew is a Chicago based company built on the the basic principles of design.

I wore this festive, floral dress on the Saturday of Lolla.  It was the perfect style for the ocassion and best of all?  It has pockets!

This sign is available on my Etsy store!

Of Course I HAD to look my best for seeing Mumford and Sons!  They closed out the Red Bull stage that night to more than 100,000 people.  It was an amazing experience to see them in my home city!

Here are a few photos that I captured on a Sony Cyber-shot.  Not bad for a point and shoot!

I hope you all had a great weekend!  Keep an eye out here in the next month for photos from my trip to Troy, OH for the Mumford and Sons Gentlemen of the Road stopover!

Much Love!

Taste of Chicago - Fun.

Perry

Happy Sunday beautiful people!
It's a great day here in Chicago, so I hope you all have plans to go out and enjoy the day.

Last week I made another check on my concert bucket list after seeing Fun. at the Taste of Chicago, in Grant Park!  They put on a great show full of energy and funny commentary.  I love it when a band interacts with the audience!

They played all of my favorite songs, including Some Nights!  Beach balls were thrown out into the audience and confetti rained down on us.  It was the perfect, summer concert experience.

Check out some of my photos from the show bellow!

Needless to say this concert was amazing and....well, fun. haha (I couldn't help myself)
They ended coming back for not one, but TWO encores!

Check out a more in-depth highlight of the concert in the next issue of Highlight Magazine, written by yours truly!

Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros - The World's Largest Block Party

Perry

So far this year has been full of great concerts!  I have seen so many bands that are on my concert bucket list and the summer has only just began!  I couldn't be more grateful.

Last week I had the unbelievable opportunity to see Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros live at The World's Largest Block Party, here in Chicago.  But wait it gets better...we were front and center!

It rained on and off and then it poured right before the set began, which made for an interesting, but fun experience. Of course nobody seemed to care that they were sopping wet when Edward Sharpe made it to the stage.

Check out some of the photos I took bellow!

It was so surreal, magical, and amazing to see such a talented, humble and genuine group of people perform!  It is definitely a night I will remember for the rest of my life.  I can only hope I will get another opportunity to see them again in the future.

What is your favorite concert you have seen so far this year?

Much Love

I Got It At Sears - An Outfit Highlight

Perry

Hello Chicagoans and fashion lovers everywhere!
How about this weather we are having?  Nothing like a monsoon and a beautiful light show of thunder to end the evening, right?

At least this weekend was warm and sunny.   For the first time, it really felt like summer had started!  Karley snapped some pics of my outfit before we headed off to one of the many Chicago street festivals on Saturday.

This fun, flowy skirt and pastel top are both made with light-weight fabric, perfect for the spring to summer transition.
And that's right....I got them at Sears!

Skirt: French Connection
Earrings: vintage
Shoes: Gomax

While we were taking photos, we spotted this fluffy-headed duck waddling along the river bank.
Isn't he so cute?

Thanks for checking out another post for "I Got It At Sears"!

Of Monsters and Men - The Aragon Ballroom

Perry

I am super excited to share this post with all of you!  Earlier this year I was introduced to and fell in LOVE with the musical group, Of Monsters and Men.  This past May, by bestie Karly and I had the amazing opportunity to see them live at the Aragon Ballroom, here in Chicago.  They were even more amazing live...I can't even describe how great of a concert it was!

Take a look at some of the photos I snapped during their set.

Their stage presence was amazing and of course the songs were great!  They were called back out for an encore and played two more songs while confetti fell onto the audience.  If you get a chance to see them live I would highly recommend you go for it!  You will NOT be disappointed!

Check in here next week for another fun post for the series, "I Got It At Sears".

Much Love.

Relient K and Hellogoodbye - House of Blues

Perry

Everyone has that band that defines a moment in your life - a band that means more to you than anyone else could ever know and whose music becomes a time capsule to memories that might have otherwise been forever lost.   Relient K is one of those bands to me.  I had the wonderful opportunity to see them play with Hellogoodbye at the House of Blues here in Chicago this weekend!

The last time I saw Relient K perform was in October of 2008 at Clutch Cargo's in Pontiac, Michigan.  It was so cool to see them perform again, almost five years later. They will forever be one of my most cherished bands!

Who is your favorite nostalgic band?

Check out Relient K's new album, Collapsible Lung, due to be released July 2nd!
I hope you all have a great rest of your week! Hang in there - the weekend is almost here!

Much Love

Coral Me Happy! - An Outfit Highlight

Perry

Last weekend was full of time spent with friends, working, and some spring cleaning, so I was quite the busy gal!  Luckily, I had time to go see The Great Gatsby with Karley and my roomie, Kelly, on Friday when it opened in theatres.  If you have not gotten a chance to see it yet, go now! Well, you can finish reading my lovely post first....but then GO! It was amazing!

I bought a lovely pair of coral colored shoes from Akira for a prohibition benefit last year and seeing the glitzy, 20's era fashion on the big screen inspired me to wear them the very next day!

Cardigan: thrifted
Belt: H&M
Jeans: Miracle Body from vive la femme
Knuckle Ring: Mishellaa Boutique
Shoes: Akira

This next weekend is shaping up to be a warm one, so hopefully you will get a chance to get out there and enjoy it!
What is your favorite thing to do in Chicago in the spring?

Happy One Year Anniversary Valentia!

Perry

Last week I was invited to a ladies night out to celebrate one of my favorite Chicago boutique's one year anniversary of opening their doors!  Located in Bucktown, Valentia has a great selection of fair trade items, gifts, accessories and clothing.  Jane, the owner, recently designed a line of simple, modern dresses which were debuted at the party, as well as available for purchase.
Check out some of the fun patterns bellow!

Not only was there plenty of great shopping all evening, but tasty donuts from Glazed & Infused and samplings of Coggies gourmet cookie mix too!

Congratulations Jane!  Here's to many more years for Valentia.

Making an Apartment a Home

Perry

Summer is finally coming! (hope I didn't just jinx us)
The weather has been so warm and sunny the past couple of days.  I can't wait  for it to stay like this!  The sun feels amazing on my pasty-white, Midwest skin. haha But seriously, its been amazing.

All this warm weather has finally launched me into spring cleaning mode.  After dusting, vacuuming, and burning some calories (bonus), I found myself looking around my tidy apartment, being thankful that it is finally starting to become a home!

So what did I do next?  Documented it of course!  Check out these photos of some of my favorite parts of my apartment.

I hope you all have been inspired by this warm weather to organize a little, start a new craft project, or just get out and enjoy the sun!

Much Love xoxo

Neon Indian and Moon Boots at The Mid

Perry

How time flies!  It has already been a week since I saw Neon Indian perform at The Mid!  It was my first time there, but I am happy to say it will not be my last.  The Mid is a smaller venue, very "clubby", great for sets like this!  I had seen Moon Boots perform before, so I was excited to see him again, and I was of course STOKED to see Neon Indian live, in person!

Neon Indian made a brief appearance at the start of the set, but then passed the tables off to Moon Boots.  Feeding off of the energy of his native city, he rocked the socks (and boots) off of every crazy, electric-hipster in the place.  I was beyond excited when Neon Indian reappeared for a solo set, finishing with a fitting rain of confetti onto the crowd.

Check out some photos bellow.  Not the best, since it was VERY dark, but still fun!

The next day Karley and I went thrifting at The Brown Elephant and ate lunch at an amazing hot dog place called Huey's, in Andersonville.  It was a super fun weekend!

I hope you all are enjoying this weekend!  I will be posting photos of one of my favorite, new looks this next week, so keep an eye out here.

Much love.
xoxo
