This past week I attended the September RAW artist
showcase, Ensemble. As always, I had an absolute
blast! Of course I love to see all of the new paintings, photography, and
jewelry on display, but I also look forward to discovering a new band or two.
This showcase was no exception, with a great selection of musical
performances! Nick Shaheen & Assoc. surprised me with their soulful style.
Growing up listening to the likes of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and
Cat Stevens, I have always loved folk rock and blues. Their range of musical
interments, including a banjo and harmonica was quite impressive. It was obvious
that I wasn't the only one who enjoyed their unique sound when they finished their set with an encore. Another surprise of the evening was getting to
see artist Michelle Mink showcase her work by painting live models. I
loved her Lady Gaga style skeleton! This showcase was artist Alayna Kudalis's first RAW event. She said she loved showcasing her photography
and was greatful for the exposure that RAW offered. "My
favorite part about the event was definitely the people there, seeing all my friends
and family come out, and meeting cool new artists to network with," said
Kudalis. Another first time RAW photographer, Hanna Dunsirn, caught my
eye as well. Her organic presentation of her subjects and the places she
has traveled was refreshing. She shared with me that she would like to continue
showing her work in the future and that she hopes to be working in advertising
someday. "My favorite part about the RAW event is the fun atmosphere," said Dunsirn. "It is nothing like your ordinary gallery show, it was very relaxed."
Thank you to my amazing,
multi-tasking, talented friend Kara Coraci for putting together another amazing
showcase, as well as all others involved who made this wonderful event a
